Old-fashioned as we may appear to be, we are really a modern square dance club with the
latest technology, including a Williams Sound System! So if you have FM Willians receivers,
bring them, they will work here! And if you don't, but sometimes have trouble hearing the
caller, we have a few Willians receivers at the front desk, you can use one and hear crystal-
clear sound straight from the caller.
Driving Directions: Approaching Oakhurst from the south,
Highway 41 to the second light in Oakhurst, there turn right onto Road 426 (Crane Valley Road), go
past one light about 2 blocks, turn right onto Road 425B. (You pass Sierra
Telephone and Mountain Comforts, but if you come to a second light on Road 426
you've gone too far). On 425B go about 2 blocks, turn right and go up a
little hill into the Community Center parking lot. From Mariposa and points
west and northwest, follow Highway 49 to Oakhurst, turn left at the light at the
END of 49, that will be Highway 41, turn right at the next light onto Road 426
and proceed as above.
* Nominally. This may vary because of special circumstances, check the
VASD Newsletter.
Square dancing is a year-round activity. Well duhh :-) that's because we
have a nice warm hall to square dance in (and air conditioned in summer). But we don't
forget what season it is! Now true, we would'nt dance in the parking lot if it were
snowing. (on the other hand, we just might for a dangle!!) No snow here in Oakhurst yet,
just rain - and each storm a little colder! So we have decided to create a dance that
will warm people up; on November 12 we will have our annual
Chili Cookoff!! The chili cooking competition will bring out the best of the best chili chefs,
and you get to vote for the best chili -
and the winner gets a prize! Nothing like a nice spicy warm bowl of chili to get ready for
square dancing! Now next month will be countdown to Christmas of course, and so on December
17 will be our Christmas Party! Our hall even has a
fireplace and a chimney for Santa to slide down! We know he will come, because we are
having a bake sale! umm-m-m-m!
If you are but a beginner at square dancing, a member of our class,
, you will find that every other tip is a
class level or "all dance" tip!
Our NEW SQUARE DANCE CLASS is underway; several newbies, along with some that have had some
square dance experience, but not enough to keep up in advanced tips, join with experienced dancers
in the teaching tips. We are a dominant teaching
club for all of the Sierra and Central California. From new calls, to old time square
dance calls, square dancing today dances to a world standard and the key to it is in the square
dancing classes. Great opportunity!
